MAXINE J. CHOU RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS ELLIS ISLAND MEDAL OF HONOR SEI Employee Presented Award By The National Ethnic Coalition Of Organizations (NECO)
Ceremony Pays Tribute to American Citizens of Diverse Ethnic Origins & Celebrates the 20th Anniversary of Ellis Island Medal of Honor
OAKS, PA, May 17, 2006 - The Ellis Island Medal of Honor was presented to Maxine Chou of SEI in a dramatic ceremony on Ellis Island this past Saturday, May 13, 2006. This year celebrates the 20th anniversary of NECO's annual Ellis Island Medals of Honor. Chou joins other 2006 Medal recipients including legendary spiritual author Deepak Chopra, Former Homeland Security Director Tom Ridge, and MSNBC 'Live & Direct' Host Rita Cosby.
Ms. Chou serves as Chief Financial Officer of SEI Investments Distribution Company (SIDCO), overseeing financial operations of the company’s broker/dealer arm. She was a founder and Treasurer of the International Operations Association (IOA), a division of the Securities Industry Association. Ms. Chou also penned a book, The Shining Road – Wall Street, which has been published and well received in both the United States and China.
On a community level, Ms. Chou is a Director of the China AIDS Fund, Inc. (CAF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to combating the spread of HIV/AIDS in China by leveraging the support of the Chinese-American community.
Established 20 years ago by the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations (NECO) - which represents over 200 organizations that celebrate, educate and nurture ethnic heritage, diversity and culture - the Ellis Island Medals of Honor pay tribute to the ancestry groups that comprise America's unique cultural mosaic. They are awarded annually to outstanding American citizens from all walks of life, who have distinguished themselves through their significant contributions to this country. The U.S. Senate and House of Representatives have officially recognized the Ellis Island Medals of Honor, and each year the recipients are listed in the Congressional Record.
“SEI continues to focus on the importance of global relationships, so we’re thrilled that one of our employees is being recognized among such a prestigious and globally diverse group of leaders,” said Edward Loughlin, Executive Vice President of SEI. “With Maxine’s dedication and accomplishments, she’s well deserving of this distinction.”
To date, some 1,000 American citizens have received Ellis Island Medals of Honor, including six US Presidents, many Senators and Members of Congress, Nobel Prize winners, military heroes, and leaders from both the public and private sectors.
According to Rosemarie Taglione, Executive Director of NECO, “NECO's message of tolerance and harmony among diverse ethnic groups is, perhaps, even more important today than it was 20 years ago. We are proud each year to honor a group of extraordinary individuals who have become part of the very fabric of this country.”
ABOUT NECO NECO was founded by William Denis Fugazy on the conviction that the diversity of the American people is what makes this nation great. NECO's multiethnic coalition has sponsored a broad range of programs, events and educational initiatives designed to celebrate diversity and educate young people about the immigrant experience.
NECO continues its commitment to the restoration and maintenance of Ellis Island, a living tribute to the courage and hope of all immigrants, past and present, who have enhanced our nation with their hard work and determination. At the request of the National Parks Service, which maintains Ellis Island, NECO made possible the construction of two stone monuments that stand at the entrance to the now-restored Great Hall, through which all immigrants passed on their way to a new life in America.
